Composite Column Capital

This marble capital, decorated with two rows of acanthus leaf motifs, belongs to the 19th century. The kalathos was cut at a later date in order to shorten the length of the capital. The symmetrical volutes are supported by the leaves on the top row. Also next to these volutes are smaller volutes originating from the same roots, with cross motifs at their center. Where the volutes touch each other there are rings with a hole in the middle, and above them are three-tipped leaves that bend towards the abacus.
