The exhibition “Scribbled Exercises, Practice Pages” brings together the scribbled exercises and practice pages of Ottoman calligraphers, presenting master calligraphers from the sixteenth to the twentieth century.
The selection features scribbled exercises and practice pages from the Arts of the Book and Calligraphy Collection of Sabancı University Sakıp Sabancı Museum, alongside works from the collection of Kubbealtı Academy Cultural and Arts Foundation. It includes works by calligraphers such as Ahmed Karahisarî, Hafız Osman, who followed the tradition of Şeyh Hamdullah, Karalamacı Hamdi Efendi, Mahmud Celâleddin, Kazasker Mustafa İzzet, Bakkal Ârif, Hasan Rıza, and İsmail Hakkı Altunbezer.
Reflecting the working processes of calligraphers, from improvised sketches to perfect letter compositions, the exhibition can be visited every day except Mondays, between 10.00 and 18.00.
As part of the exhibition, a curator-led tour will be held on Tuesday, 16 June, at 14.00, guided by Dr. Ayşe Aldemir, Head of the Arts of the Book and Calligraphy Collection.
