Yoko Ono exhibition to open at SSM in June
06 April 2026

Conceived in collaboration with MUSAC (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León) in León, Spain, Yoko Ono: Insound and Instructure will be presented in Istanbul following its showing at MUSAC.
Spanning the 1960s to the present, and encompassing poetry, drawing, photography, video, sculpture and installation, the exhibition foregrounds Ono’s radical commitment to audience participation. Predicated on both mental and physical engagement, her works dislodge the viewer from the position of passive observer and recast them as an active constituent of the work’s unfolding.
The exhibition will include landmark early works such as Grapefruit, Cut Piece, Sky Ladders and Mend Piece, alongside large-scale installations produced from the 1990s onwards, as well as participatory works that attain completion through the involvement of their audiences. With Yoko Ono: Insound and Instructure, SSM peresents one of the most significant exhibition in recent years to offer a comprehensive consideration of Ono’s artistic practice.
Uniting MUSAC and SSM within a shared process of production, and reflecting SSM’s sustained commitment to international collaboration, the exhibition will remain on view at Sakıp Sabancı Museum for six months from 25 June 2026, with the support of Akbank.
