Joan Miró. Women, Birds, Stars

Sabancı University Sakıp Sabancı Museum (SSM) is hosting a comprehensive exhibition titled ‘Joan Miró. Women, Birds and Stars’ focusing on the maturity period of one of the most groundbreaking and multi-faceted artists of the 20th century, Joan Miró.  The exhibition, made possible with the sponsorship of Sabancı Holding and organized in collaboration with the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona, the Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation, as well as the family collection in Mallorca, will be open to the public between the dates of September 23, 2014 – March 8, 2015.

‘Joan Miró. Women, Birds and Stars’ focuses on the later, consolidated artistic vocabulary and the woman, bird and star themes of the Catalan artist, who was heavily inspired by his observations on the Mediterranean geography and people throughout his long and fruitful career. The exhibition will open a door to the symbolic language of the artist through a rich selection of a total of 125 artworks – oil and acrylic paintings, lithographs, etchings, and assemblages with relevant models and drawings as well as his textiles and ceramic works.

With the collaboration of Washington National Gallery of Art, the documentary titled Joan Miró: The Ladder of Escape, currently being screened in the SSM galleries as part of the 'Joan Miró. Women, Birds, Stars' exhibition, is now online with Turkish subtitles on the SSM website.
